Carolyn Bell Farrell

Executive Director, MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie ON

CAROLYN BELL FARRELL is the Executive Director of the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, the regional public art gallery serving central Ontario. Prior to joining the MacLaren in 2007, Carolyn was the Senior Curator of the Koffler Gallery in Toronto for nine years. While based in Toronto, she curated sixty exhibitions of contemporary art between 1992 and 2007 for galleries across Canada and contributed as many essays for exhibition publications. From 1984 to 1998, she worked extensively with artist-run centres in southern Ontario and held positions with Mercer Union, the Women’s Art Resource Centre and Gallery TPW. From 2000 to 2007, she was an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at York University and an active member of the City of Toronto’s Art Committee for Public Places, responsible for public art on public land. In Barrie, Carolyn has chaired the Fine Arts Advisory Committee for Georgian College and the Barrie Public Art Committee. She also teaches Museum Management at Georgian College in their new postgraduate programme, Museum and Gallery Studies. Carolyn is a graduate of the University of Toronto.
